Day 3: Our Idols May Disappoint Us

Scripture Reading: Luke 10:30-32

Reflection: The Priests and Levites were people that most Jews in Jerusalem would have looked up to. They were holy men, some were “larger than life” figures! A story about two being so cruel to a wounded man would have been unthinkable to many. But, if we’re honest, we know that our idols often disappoint us. Pastors, parents, friends, and role models are only human and all make mistakes (sometimes huge ones). That’s one reason why it’s so important to focus on Jesus.

Prayer: “Jesus, keep my eyes fixed on you. I know you are a man of your word, and will never disappoint or betray me.”

Journal Prompt: Recall a time when someone you looked up to disappointed you. How did this make you feel? What would you like to say to God about it? (are you angry, saddened, or do you feel you learned something from it, or something else?)
